GENERAL PREPRINT INFORMATION
1. Preprint space carried in The Morning Call applies to Revenue Contracts.
2. Preprints are accepted for insertion Thursdays and Sundays (except for holidays falling on a weekday).
Preprints are not accepted on Monday, Tuesday or Saturday. The number accepted on any given day is limited.
3. Mechanical specifications for rectangular standard inserts
Jacket size: 12” wide (along the folded edge)
Insert size: 5”x 7”; this includes cards, envelopes 11.5” x 12” for quarter-fold inserts.
No magazine-type section should be smaller than quarter-fold (half tabloid) size.
* Maximum thickness: 1/4” maximum thickness. Standard broadsheet inserts printed on 30 lb. newsprint should be limited to 96
pages.
* Minimum thickness: 005” minimum thickness for single sheets/cards/envelopes. Standard broadsheet inserts printed on 30 lb.
newsprint should be 4 pages minimum. Inserts of less than 4 pages may need to be quarter-folded
for insertion. Standard tabloid page inserts printed on 30 lb. stock should be a minimum of 4 pages.
4. Out-of-spec inserts
Inserts with the following characteristics may pose problems for machine insertion.
• Non-rectangular; tri-fold; or die-cut, special shape inserts
• Accordion folds
• Inserts of inconsistent thickness (non-uniform thickness or a lump in an insert, pre-stuffed inserts)
• Inserts that stick together and do not separate consistently
• Insert pages that are glued, stapled, stitched, perforated or perfect bound
• Objects such as keys, coins, CDs, etc., attached to any page of an insert; sachets containing scented objects; liquids or
shampoos; polybags; paper bags; product samples
5. Preprints cannot be accepted with postal indicia imprint.
6. “An Advertising Supplement to The Morning Call and Direct Marketing Distribution, Allentown, PA (date),” is the recommended supplement
line on each in-paper insert. “Group” listings of newspapers carrying supplements are acceptable. Any deviation from this procedure must
be approved by The Morning Call.
PREPRINT PACKAGING GUIDELINES QUANTITY TERMS AND CONDITIONS

For example, a contract advertiser who agrees to run at least 48 tabloids (minimum of 16 tab pages, 32 flexie pages or 8
standard page preprints) earns a 19% frequency discount on the qualifying preprints, and earns a 5% frequency discount on
any other preprints.
